Since 1999, The Hair Base has been the heartbeat of style and community spirit in Gorleston. Founded by the visionary Emma Jarvis, armed with determination and a pair of scissors, The Hair Base has grown from a dream into a beloved high street salon.
Emma's Inspiration and Vision: A Girl with a Dream, growing into a woman on a mission.
Emma’s journey began with a childhood fascination with hair. The first gift she remembers being given was a Girls World Head. Remember those? She was further inspired by watching her mum’s hair makeovers. She loved listening to the happy chit-chat and seeing the transformation in her mum, not just the new style, but she had a sparkle in her eye and seemed to walk taller and look more confident.
Little did she know, this passion would lead her to create a salon where clients feel like family.
“I never imagined owning my own salon, let alone celebrating its 25th anniversary!” Emma said.
More Than Just a Salon: We are “hair” to make a difference!
The Hair Base isn’t just about hair; it’s about making a difference. With over £25,000 raised for charities like Breast Cancer Research and Macmillan Cancer Support, The Hair Base is a beacon of hope in the community.
And, as we blow out 25 candles, we’re paying it forward?? to local women’s charity Feathers Futures, a local charity dedicated to empowering women and helping them to create a brighter future.
We’re not simply cutting hair; we’re making a real difference in our community.

Emma’s dedication and passion for hair and the industry have earned her and the team 29 top industry awards, making The Hair Base an industry leader. From podcast guest to salon educator and columnist, Emma’s influence extends far beyond the salon walls. She’s not just keeping Gorleston gorgeous; she’s putting our wonderful town on the map!
Birthday Celebrations: Cheers to 25 Years
The festivities are in full swing as The Hair Base celebrates its 25th birthday! What’s a milestone anniversary without a little celebration? Throughout our anniversary week, we’re popping bottles, cutting cake, and offering special promotions that’ll make your hair flip with excitement!
Our anniversary goal? to raise £5,000 for local women’s charity Feathers Futures because supporting women never goes out of style.
This will fund a year of courses to empower women and create a brighter future. This donation will change lives and mean that over 120 women will gain confidence, learn self-care, increase self-esteem and positive thinking, and gain the support and skills to love themselves again.
We have many activities planned, including a sponsored ice dip and skydive, quiz night and lots more!
